I mean, I understand that people like to portray slave auctions as this horrible, evil thing for the slaves, but that's not realistic. It doesn't make sense to mistreat your own merchandise, and it's highly likely that the salves themselves would have varying feelings. Some would actively participate in the auction, some would happily show themselves off, and some would ashamedly and unsuccessfully try to go unnoticed.
Slavery in the real world wasn't considered bad because slaves were mistreated; it was considered bad because of the nature of slavery itself. And before slavery became a racial institution (in other words, before Europe and America took slaves of Africans) slavery wasn't even that bad, since slaves were commonly freed after a period of servitude (read up on some Roman history).
