It is. If you take too long to beat the white rabbit, a bunch of knights carrying bombs run in (and promptly get slaughtered, though you can then use the bombs yourself), and shortly before the battle, you run into a guy who looks like Tim the Enchanter, who warns you of a deadly beast up ahead. Also, just take a look at all the dead knights in the background.

Dragon's crown has lots of references to western fantasy. There's an explicit reference to "the one ring" and the level design in the catacombs level is clearly heavily inspired by the mines of moria from peter jackson's film.
