He looks almost exactly like Sieg Hart from Mashima Hiro's previous series Rave Master, but there does not seem to be any connection between them besides physical resemblance. He is a powerful mage who resides within the Tower of Heaven. He is Erza's childhood friend and love interest. As a child, he was a courageous and idealistic boy who tried to rebel against the tyranny of those in Tower of Heaven. He is captured and brutally tortured causing the young Erza to take up his mantle. Unfortunately, upon rescuing him, Erza discovers that Jellal has apparently gone insane. He casts Erza out of Tower of Heaven, takes over the place, and turns Erza's fellow slave friends against her. Erza's past and Jellal come back to haunt her during her time at Fairy Tail. During the Tower of Heaven arc, Erza's friends come to realize that Jellal had lied to them about her and they reconcile with Erza. All of them save Simon survive the battle at the Tower of Heaven. Natsu manages to defeat Jellal and apparently kills him. However, Jellal is eventually discovered to have survived the battle but he has lost his memory. It is revealed that Jellal's sudden shift in personality in his childhood was the result of being corrupted by Ultear to serve Zeref. Jellal eventually regains his memory and becomes closer to the courageous and noble young self in personality. Erza forgives Jellal for his actions while he was corrupted. Unfortunately, the memory of the many crimes Jellal committed while corrupted is fresh in many people's minds and his victims intend to make Jellal pay for his past actions. Jellal, having regained his conscience, also becomes wracked with guilt and although he still loves Erza, he feels that he must distance himself from her. He spends the majority of his time fighting to atone for his past behavior. He is voiced by Namikawa_Daisuke.
