I wish Gelbooru had an option like any usual forum - to set up local time in user settings, so we can read comments according to the time and place you live

Does the Danbooru bot have a system in place to avoid uploading content (to Gelbooru) that is already uploaded?

Only the same system that a normal user has. It's not foolproof but it works decently.

I know slowpoke, but not quite. The Danbooru bot actually directly inserts posts into the database/solr, bypassing all of the actual Gelbooru code. (It's its own program, not a part of the Gelbooru software)

It does basically the same check itself, which is simply checking the image's md5 against the md5s of the rest of the images in the database.

That would be an interesting feature. It'd take quite a bit of work to implement, but it'd be pretty interesting. It'll probably have to wait for 0.3.x, though.

Please be aware that all feature suggestions should be posted in the trac. If they're posted anywhere but the trac, there's a good chance we'll have forgotten about it by the time we've cleared all the tickets before it, so they'll be lost and forgotten. I'm the only member of the dev team who pays any real attention to the forums, and for the most part I only develop a side branch, so there's a good chance that the devs for the main branch wouldn't even see the suggestion.

You will need to install an IRC client. I recommend mIRC, which you can find here:
www.mirc.com/get.html

You can also use a web-based IRC client like Mibbit:
chat.mibbit.com/?server=r...7&channel=%23gelbooru

FBI Warning/Virus
Posted on: 10/03/15 05:47AM

Hi, I'm not new to the site, but I'm very new to the forum side of things. It wasn't letting me start a new thread for this, so sorry for cramming it in here.

The Contact Us form doesn't seem to be working due to an 'unknown error' and I was trying to let you guys know that that annoying FBI Warning/virus is all over your site now. =C

If it helps, I'm experiencing it on iOS & iPad, and I'm hoping you can fix it/ get rid of it? Cause it locks me out of my browser and I have to reboot it every time I browse through your images. =/

I adore your website and have used and supported it for years, but I'm not going to be able to anymore if the issue persists. D: So please fix it! I love you guys!

I'll pass that up to Lozer, but unfortunately without more information it's difficult to find the ad.

Next time you get it, could you paste it's URL here?

FBI Virus Pop-Up
Posted on: 10/05/15 12:08PM

Sorry took me a few days to get back to you, it's cropping up again!

I am not able to get that URL to you, because the virus shuts down Safari, so you can't do anything at all. It says that it'll only unlock it if you pay them $500. (Spoiler: even if you were to pay it, it wouldn't unlock it. ) However, there is lots of information about it online if you just Google 'FBI pornography virus.' Fortunately for iOS, it's simple to get rid of and therefore not very serious. But for many PCs it can be deadly.

I've tested it a couple of times to show you how to trigger the virus, which I really only suggest you do in iOS, since I'm not sure how it would respond to other devices.
Basically what's happening is when you click on an image that you've searched, and it goes to open the image, often times the original tab you had open will redirect several times to some other advertisement like a pop-up window, and opens the image you clicked on in a new tab instead. This is how they get around pop-up blockers, and ad-blockers. Because they're using your original tab, it is not recognized as a pop up. I'm sure we've all experienced this in our travels here. Unfortunately, the "pop up" that surfacing now, is that virus.

Once you have triggered it, getting rid of the virus is easy, you simply double-click the home button and swipe up to dismiss Safari. Next, go to your Settings > Safari > clear history and website data. Doing this resets safari so that when you open it again, that window will be gone and no longer harassing you ( don't worry, your bookmarks and favorites won't be affected – just your browser history and any currently open tabs). So getting rid of it is easy, but since it locks down your browser, it very literally makes your site impossible to enjoy. So I really appreciate your help in the matter of eradicating it.

I also have some screenshots, if you'd like.

I don't doubt that you're receiving the virus, but without more information on exactly which ad it's coming from, there isn't anything we can do. All of our ads are served by our ad provider. We don't really have any direct control over which ads they show, other than being able to ask them to remove problematic ones after we've identified them. Unfortunately, in order to do this, we need some specific information about the ad in order for them to find it. They can potentially serve hundreds of different ads at a time given that they target ads to specific geographical locations. For example, I myself use iOS to browse the site (I'm using it right now, actually), and have never experienced this, since I am not in one of the geographical locations that has been targeted. Without more information, they have no way of narrowing it down.

This is why I asked for the URL of the trojan ad: that's the easiest way for them to identify the ad. Your geographical location may help as well. Of course, all information you can give us will help, including screencaps.
