Two anons made a very good point. One said "There's no way to see images that fall between small_breasts and large_breasts. The jump from small to large is tremendous when it comes to hentai so those who prefer medium are just out of luck. They said "just use the tag 'breasts' because it's the same as medium" but that's bullshit. Any image that has breasts, no matter the size, has that tag so good luck finding what counted as medium when small, large, huge, and gigantic are lumped into the same category." and another says "That one makes the most sense out of any non-tag. Searching 'breasts' like they say you should is stupid because that'll just get you every image that has breasts in it. The gap between small and large is too big, we need that tag back."

They're right. The space between gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=3068457 and gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=3010920 is quite a jump. Images like this gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=3081667 can't be found very easily at all. There are 1,075,911 pictures with the tag "breasts". So doing what is recommended (and that can be found here gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=2497744) is asinine. Saying "The "breasts" tag always had a dual role of indicating breasts of any size, but also implying a medium/average breast size when there are no breast size tags added." is just as hollow of an excuse as saying "enter breasts -small_breasts -large_breasts -huge_breasts -gigantic_breasts". Why bother with that when simply putting "medium_breasts" not only saved time but made more sense?

It's not that big of an ask and it only makes sense in an organization standpoint. People tag breast sizes incorrectly all the time, some (non-animated) pictures have multiple size tags for one girl, while some just have the tag 'breasts' even though a tag that already exists can be used. People who prefer the most common size (medium) have to either type in a ton of text or sift through 1,000,000 pictures and it's absurd.

There's your answer.

Let me expand on that. You see, 70% of Gelbooru's content is imported from Danbooru.

Danbooru does not use this tag at all. This means that images uploaded there will not have the tag. In other words, 70% of Gelbooru's content that would deserve the tag would not receive it.

There are very few Gelbooru users that actually go through and add tags - especially breast size tags - to Danbooru uploads. There are a few, yes, but nowhere near enough to actually make a dent. If a tag can't be conceivably expected to be added to the majority of posts it belongs on, it usually won't be approved. On the other hand, "breasts -small_breasts -large_breasts -huge_breasts -gigantic_breasts" will by default have considerably better coverage, since users don't have to do anything other than not use the wrong size tag. They are going to use the wrong size tag, yes, but they'd be using the wrong size tag even if we did have "medium_breasts".

Let's say you've decided that you're going to fix that, then. Since normal users are limited to 1 tag edit every 10 seconds, that's going to take you 174 days of full 8 hour shifts doing absolutely nothing but tagging the 500,000 results for "breasts -small_breasts -large_breasts -huge_breasts -gigantic_breasts". Oh, by the way, "medium_breasts" had less than a tenth of that (possibly somewhere nearer to a twentieth).

Setting that policy aside, it's site policy to always break up tags that could be searched using a combination of existing tags. In other words, it's site policy to break up "medium_breasts" because you can search for it using "breasts -small_breasts -large_breasts -huge_breasts -gigantic_breasts".

Every change to our tagging is going to inconvenience someone. I'm sorry that it was you this time, but that's just how it is.

In that sense, your best bet is to convince Danbooru to make the change... or any change, and then sit back while Danbooru upload and tag bots on Gelbooru take care of the rest.

I really think there should be a sticky explaining why they can't really change any tags on gelbooru.

I proposed this change on Danbooru a month ago as part of a breast tagging reform (see danbooru.donmai.us/forum_topics/12825). It was approved yesterday.
