I'm in the mood for anime but I have no idea what to watch. Any recommendations for a new anime fan? Preferably something with action.

I watched claymore and I loved it. The best episodes were the earliest ones when Clare was the underdog. It gave the show a horror-survival tone that I absolutely loved. In the earliest episodes she had to combine her unique powers with the unique powers of the other girls to conquer her enemies, and that was clever and made the fight scenes more interesting. Then she became super powerful and it turned into dbz. I've heard a lot about berserk so I might give it a shot. Thanks for the reply.

Action Anime

Fairy Tail - Pretty much One Piece, but with Wizards instead of Pirates.

Busou Renkin - Pretty much Bleach, but with different weapons.

Toriko - If One Piece and Dragon Ball Z had a baby, and that baby grew up to be a foodie.

Bakkano - Gangsters and/or Immortals fighting in the 20s.

Blood+ - Girl with sword fights monsters. She has special blood that can kill them.

Queen's Blade - The series that made Action + Ecchi a mainstream genre combination.


Kinda Action Anime

Slayers - A classic. A sorcerer and a swordsman have wacky adventures while saving the world. My first Anime, so I may be biased.

Record of Lodoss War - A classic. Based off of a DnD session that the creator played, I think.

Shadow Star Narutaru - Kind of like a modern day, less family friendly version of Pokémon. Pretty psychological.

Bokurano - Giant robots and depressing situations.

.hack - MMORPG the anime. The classic "anime set in a video game" series.

Log Horizon - Similar concept as Sword Art Online and .hack. People suddenly live in a video game.


Not really Action Anime, but still very good

Dennou Coil - Google Glasses the anime, from before Google Glasses was a thing.

Higurashi no Naka Koro Ni - Friends act cute, have fun. One friend goes crazy and kills everyone. Repeat.

Kino's Journey - Kino journeys from land to land, observing cultures. Classy and philosophical.

Monster - Doctor saves a serial killer's life. Regrets it.

Watched the first 4 episodes of Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon:
