Intermission ads appearing even though they've been disabled
Posted on: 01/19/17 02:24AM

For some reason whenever i click on any tag in here to search, i keep getting a whole lot of ads shoved to my face. And that's been happening for the past 2 days.
After 3,5 years of gelbooru with banner ads only they're kinda being annoying, especially since on my phone they lock me on the page so i'm forced to close the tab, losing whatever tag search i was doing.
Was wondering if there's anything going on, or if it's just some random error.
(Could it be related to the no ads campaign on patreon maybe?)

I'd recommend disabling adblock to see if that fixes it if you have it enabled. Intermissions have been removed for at least a month by now. I noticed something odd going on with mobile but haven't tracked it down as of yet. I'll get back to work on that in a moment.

Been testing more and i still get the same problem, everytime i open a board search or even click on the "posts" button i keep getting intermission ads.
Mainly using Chrome on mobile, never used adblock before, i also tried entering the site from other mobile browsers but i still get the same intermission ads, just on different pages.
I can assure my device is not infected or anything since it doesn't happen on any other site but gelbooru.
It's getting to the point i can't even use the site anymore which is awful since I've spent like 2 hours a day on the board for the past 3 or so years and i really appreciate all the work that you admins do.
Edit: Also tested on PC and there are no intermission ads at all on there. And "request desktop site" on Chrome Mobile fixes the problem on a tab.

I honestly can not find it. I do not know where it is fucking up. Mostly because I can no recreate it effectively. Does it only occur on a post viewing page or only on the search results, or does it happen on both?

At the moment it occues on any link that derives from gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=
So far it didn't appear on any other page of this site.

These are the links of the ads if it helps to identify them in any way: abdct.pro/rndr/Excite_Pow...C1QUCMwcCJRIBCgEPBG5uhRQA

Have you tried using a different device? I've seen malicious adware target specific sites to appear natural before, so I wouldn't rule out an infection just yet.

Those ad links don't look like any of the ad networks we use. It's possible that it's a normal ad that maliciously redirects to another service, but we'd need to have the link to the original ad. Anything else show up in your history at around that time?

If you can PM your general geographic location to Lozer, that would help as well. It can be as vague as "Germany" or "Northeastern US". Most of our ads are targeted to specific regions, and our team only covers a tiny portion of the different locations, so we flat out don't ever see the majority of ads we show.

I'll try using a friend's phone later.

I tried checking my history and i got redirected to those ad sites from this actually: perzhru.com/sf1/retarget/...WF0MAN1CN6ef008EHD017HK00

Gonna PM lozer in a minute about my location.

It's so weird because we are supposed to be able to detect mobile, and we do. If you have it disabled in your account options, it shoulnd't show. My thoughts are a banner ad from some network is showing additional code it should not. I'll create some pages for you to view to see if they trigger popups. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

The banner trigger seems likely to be the source of the problem, i just tested disabling banner ads and those intermission ads are gone.

I'm more concerned with the hostile ads trying to trick us and install something on our computers,(the OUR SCANNERS HAVE DETECTED ERRORS ON YOUR COMPUTER, CLICK HERE TO FIX THEM ones) and the ads filling the screen with pictures of real-life under-aged girls. Having ads is one thing, but actively scaring people away from using the site with them is another, there are other websites they can go to which do not shove jail-bait/child porn in their faces or try to install malicious software on their computers.
