Broken Feature?
Posted on: 09/30/08 09:50AM

Recently, I've noticed that the little "+/-" before the tags has become a rather useless "?" I'm guessing that there's a glitch in the code somewhere that has rendered this useful feature dead.

Any insight? Maybe it's a setting on my end, or is this something most other folks are experiencing as well?

Doing an on-the-spot search, adding and excluding tags 'on the fly' was really handy. If it's gone, I will miss it!

It currently causes the page to load really slowly (not sure why) and takes up 8KB in our cache. With it removed, we can store the cache on our RAM with the thumbnails increasing search speeds for terms and such. With the +/- our load became rather high. You can still search using those in the search bar if you want.

Summary: It was removed for a bit, but will most likely make a reappearance in the 0.2.0 version where we use a better search tool that'll remove the need for caching searches. Yay! \o/

New wrinkle?
Posted on: 10/29/08 03:58PM

Looks like the +/- tags are back, but it seems (on my machine, anyway) that whatever tags are on page 1, stay there when you advance pages. Same tags, different pics.
Everything else seems to work great, though!
Just keeping the info on possible bugs flowing, so we can all have the very Best Experience here!

It IS a Great experience, too!

Thanks for the whole kit-and-kaboodle!

If you do not search for a tag, it will be the same tags on the left. Once you search, they should change per tags on that page.

This saves us a lot of CPU time for our database. Currently usage has dropped and is under 12%.

Possible cycle-saving suggestions
Posted on: 12/16/08 06:32PM

Perhaps dropping the flags list entirely from the "Browse New Posts" page would save a cycle or two. Add a button for "View Tags" for whatever the current page is, and it will show the tags for that page only. Again, it might save on CPU usage, keep the info available when it's Wanted, but drop the redundant info if it's not really needed.

Alternately, simply adding an "Update Flags List" button for the current page might be easiest...

In addition, perhaps you could have the Flags List visible Only to those who are signed in? A 'perk' of being a registered user?

In all honesty, I have no idea how to implement such an idea, and it might be far more trouble than it's worth.

Just a couple of suggestions.
