Personally, I didn't hate his redesign for FireRed & LeafGreen and it's in fact a decent one (specially the clothes) but I couldn't forgive them for changing his eyes and hair colours :I

I'm glad they swapped them back to the original for HeartGold & SoulSilver (it's hard to see because he didn't get portrait or character art for the game, but the sprite have black hair and dark red eyes).

I kinda like how he looks with the eye and hair colours from LeafGreen and FireRed, still, you're right, it is better with black hair and red eyes.

But replacing his Espeon with a Lapras... that is something I can't forgive them for.
