The markings on this aircraft, especially the red tail indicate assignment to the 332nd Fighter Group, 15th Air Force. The 322nd was an all Black unit that never lost a bomber while they were flying fighter escort missions.

Such units have a very long history of outstanding performance, among all branches of services and all periods of US history... The desire to prove one's worth is a very powerful motivator towards success.
