^Actually, since the artist is American, by Gelbooru mod standards he should die in a fire.

Which is crap.

^ LOL, The rules changed recently so mods can make exceptions for certain talented artists, and ShadowbladeEdge is a mod.

^Actually, ShadowbladeEdge IS a mod, so you can kindly stop telling us what our own standards are.

^Ah, well I see. Little bit of irony there. It's good to see that the rules are slightly less stringent now. Though I'm still seeing art being deleted for "non-Japanese artist", even when the pictures are of a quality indistinguishable from other accepted content.

I started seeing artist pages I regularly visit cleaned out all together. I checked up on the rules to see that, other than provider policies on content, the other reason for deleting stuff seems to be "because we don't like it." Hence my slightly agitated post.

I've visited Gelbooru since mid 2008 and it's one of my favorite sites. Not just for the hentai but for all the other nice art you can come across here, easily accessed and collected into one place. I even disabled Ad-block for the site and considered buying a T-shirt to help support it.

Just wish some of the rules were a little less stringent. One of the reasons I like Gelbooru over say, Deviantart or Rule34 is because there is a certain quality requirement of sorts. Though at times it seems a bit too restrictive. On another note, I'm just a lurking anon so I'm not always up to date on the rules.

TL;DR: Gelbooru is cool but too strict at times. Sankaku Complex is a good crutch for it, but the tag system is limited and sometimes crap. Also Gelbooru just works better.

Yes, we are aware that the modified rule is causing some difficulties.

While many of the moderators were already following a policy practically identical to it since before the rule was in place, and already have an idea of what types of things to keep and what types to let stay, many of them weren't.
Additionally, as "quality" is a subjective issue, sometimes different moderators see different images differently. Many of the images I'd leave along several other moderators would delete, and vice-versa.

The wording of the rule implies that the moderation team as a whole is supposed to participate in the process of handing out exceptions for non-Japanese artists, however at the moment, for the most part, it seems that most of the moderators are doing their own thing, as they do while enforcing other rules. However, the other rules are either more objective, or the precedent has been set for them for quite some time.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out a way to centralize the process of handing out exceptions more, so that, first of all, they are given out more uniformly, and second of all, there is a record for the moderator staff to look at for which artists or individual pieces of art have already been given exception.

If you've seen non-Japanese artwork that has been deleted and you feel that the deletion wasn't justified, you're free to request that it be restored on the forums. While individual moderator actions generally aren't reviewed by the team as a whole, if an image deletion is appealed, quite a few moderators will read about it in the appeals thread, so you're more likely to get a balanced assessment of the image.

I apologize for the lateness of this reply. Your comment was only just brought to my attention by another moderator.

I don't know how to do quote boxes, but it's me again. A little late for me too, but I now understand better why some images may disappear or be deleted. It's good to know there's someone reasonable out there. Next time there's a concern as to a possibly unjustified deletion or such, I'll probably sign myself up on the forum and bring it to attention then.

Thanks for your time, Jerl.
