Hinata seems to have been meant to be Naruto's love interest from the start. The author had them flirting as far back as the chunin exam arc.

Hinata is actually shown to be about as competent as Neji during the war. She was taking down hundreds with single attacks.

Naruto was never seriously going after Sakura. In spite of what a lot of characters think he isn't that much of an idiot.

Naruhina fans, and hinata fans in general, have little to no logic in their arguments. They'll deny any and all faults in her and insist that Naruto has feelings for her. I can't think of many times in the manga where he was even thinking of her once. Yeah he's acknowledged her more now, but it doesn't really mean anything. At least his relatio ship with sakura has actually evolved. (Oh, and i dont give two shits about pairings, i'm just saying as i see it)
