My random guess at the situation here-- this girl's thinking back to a to a time before the school was abandoned as a result of whatever led to its ruin.
Between the allergy masks in the past, and the gas mask she brought, there's some kind of airborne contaminant. I'm thinking the eerie blank stare some students have is a sign of early symptoms, but it doesn't hit everyone quite as hard. The students on either side of her seem uneasy about her.
Or I'm just rambling. Neat picture though.
