It really has nothing to do with their abilities anon7. It's thematic, Kenpachi is an awesomely fight crazy bastard, while Yamamoto is Yamamoto. Closest analogue I can think of is Yoda, not really impressive compared to some of his subordinates... that is until he throws down.
