Yeah, they stuck it on there because soldiers were using the feed lips on their magazines to open bottles, which made the magazines misfeed and/or deformed the tops of them so they would no longer fit into their weapons.

Correction their breasts are the magazine size the stomach is the ejection system but yea the food is basically kind of like their ammo.
