"mizu" without a "gi" means water. "sukumizu" is a contraction of "school" and "mizugi", so it makes sense in a Japanese-language context, but "school mizu", with the words separated and "school" returned to its native English, makes it sound more like you're trying to say "school water", which makes no sense.
