"Momiji" and "Momizi" are the exact same word, pronounced in the exact same way. "Momiji" is her actual name, sure, but "Momizi" is also her actual name. "Momizi" isn't a nickname at all.

And if you're going to try to assert than one representation is better than another one, you've already lost - the best representation of Japanese is always the original kana used.

"Romanization" is "representing with a Latin alphabet." A romanization is a representation.

To elaborate on my point, if you're representing Japanese with romanizations at all, it's going to be inaccurate, no matter which method you use. "Ji" and "zi" are both equally inaccurate representations of the actual sound produced. Beyond this, it's entirely subjective. Because of this, if you're arguing between different romanizations, you've already lost - neither of them represent what you want them to very well.

I have to agree with Jerl on this one. Momizi is no better or worse than Momiji ji is more common, sure, but that was not the case a decade ago.

Romanizations are still a moving target. Just because the person that labeled something learned from a different text than you did, doesn't mean they are dumb. and もみじ really is the most accurate anyway.
