And she's one of the very few characters that have the Shadowgift skill (only Aversa, DLC Micaiah, female Morgan if Aversa is her mother are the others that can have it) so she can freely use dark magic in a tome-wielding class.

And that's the Grandmaster class that DLC Katarina starts in (and shown in pic), which is the promoted version of Tactician.
