She is kind of dark. She forces her daughter to lift a rock large enough to kill her?

Its a wrong kind of character too. Toph is very carefree, even anarchistic. She not strict.

Are you kidding? Toph is a brutal teacher. She was hard as hell on Aang and she hadn't softened up at all in The Promise comics.

@Troubleman - go watch the final scenes of Season 1 Lin lifts like 8 gigantic boulders at the same time besides you have to be able to earthbend before you are able to metalbend

WOW!! Troubleman... you haven't seen "Aang the last airbender", series huh? Metalbending is a step beyond of being an earthbender. Same as lightnings with firebenders. And Ice with waterbenders I guess.
The problem with "The legend of Korra" is that looks like everybody has the ability to master those as easy as breathe. When actually, those are elements only trully masters can control. That point is a BIG FAILURE on the series.

2 things I noted
1. the ultimate water bending is blood bending
2. Lighting and blood bending were secret, lighting belonging to the fire lord and possibly high officials, generals and maybe the fire sages, blood bending is a dark art and fairly new which is why there are fewer than 5 people who can do that as this point, as for metal bending Toph started a school to train earth benders into metal benders as policemen... as for air i assume they get spirit powers considering how Korra's new season is going on about it
