Sasuke is a horribly written character... He could've been good, but the author of the series didn't handle him well at all. He feels more like a plot device to make Naruto keep going than anything else.

And no, Naruto isn't well-written either. Yeah, it's shonen, but there's a point where he has to ditch his retard moments.
