Also, while Casca (pre-mind break) was undeniably strong, she was never really independent. She was always emotionally latched on to Griffith (and to Guts as well towards the end of the Golden Age arc).

Don't get me wrong, I still think she's a great character.

^That's because she found a reason to fight, and devoted herself to Griffith, but the way she's given a characterization, it's really well done.
