The diary seems out of place. I mean, why would she even bring it, dressed like that? To take notes, while everything is still fresh?
But maybe it belongs to the guy and it was passed to her intentionally. And after reading it, she's taken the invitation, written on the last page. Maybe even seeing that boy for the first time...
