The irony is that all of this was inspired by the mecha cartoons imported from Japan that a lot of us grew up on as kids. Voltron, Macross/Robotech, Gundam, etc, etc. Now English folks make a live-action version of that, and it's getting shipped back to Japan. This whole movie is just one gigantic love note to Japan's mecha cartoon creators.
