If you look it up on the author's website, you will discover that they did it on purpose, because they have that kind of fetish. Deciding by luck, two would lose their limbs while the other would take care of them.

the same could be said for couples who get tattoos or piercings together. its not to the same extreme as the girls here went through but it does look like they thought it out, planned and got the best surgeon since theres no scarring (and yes, the artist does draw scarred amputees also so its not just the style) its been a little while but i believe the story goes that the two limbless ones are the actual winners and the third plans to join them if they ever find someone to take care of them all. its actually really beautiful and strangely romantic.
