Y is associated with males, yes. A tad strange since Mewtwo's Mega X form is much more masculine and his Y form is a bit more feminine.

Well you guys should know that Pokemon X and Y have absolutely nothing to do with genders. Hironobu Yoshida even stated “We’ve taken the idea of X and Y from the geometric X- and Y-axes.
