Klefki is one of the worst designs in pokemon, it's beyond me how someone could like it at all let alone enough to draw a picture of it . . . but then again kids these days are terribly dumb and enjoy viciously stupid things (see Adventure Time and shitty animu)

@anon1: remember some pokemons of the first generation who where like klefki (magnemite, voltorb), so please shut your mouth and stop being a Nostalfag, let other people enjoy it.
Not every one has your taste.......

@ Anon 2: Except Voltorb and Magnemite's designs actually make sense. Klefki's does not.

@Rahkshi500: They're all based on inanimate objects so I don't see a difference. A key ring, a pokeball, a magnet, sludge (Grimer, Muk), rocks, etc... Only really distasteful one I can think of is Garbador, but even than I appreciate the design because Garbador, being literal garbage, is supposed to be atrocious.

I like Klefki.

@ Anon 1438737: Good for you if you like Klefki. I'm not saying you can't like it. I, on the other hand, don't.

The designs are based on inanimate objects only if you look at them superficially, but looking at the concepts behind them justifies their designs.

Voltorb is designed as a Pokeball, yes, but it's concept is based on the Mimic, a fictional monster that disguises itself as a treasure chest to fool their prey. In the games, you find random objects across the regions in that appear on screen as Pokeballs. Voltorb is the Mimic of the Pokemon universe, so its design is not only makes sense, but also serves a purpose.

The Magnemite line's concept is based on electromagnetism, which is one of the 4 fundamental forces of physics. The magnet part of their design is a simplified version of the concept.

Grimer's line is based on both slime monsters from other fantasy settings, as well as being an allegory for water pollution, just like Koffing is meant to be an allegory for air pollution. Garbador could be said be the same with regards to land pollution, but unlike Muk and Weezing, it's executed poorly and I think there are better ways to design a Pokemon that represents pollution.

Like with the Grimer line, most of the rock Pokemon are based on rock monsters that have appeared in other fantasy settings.

So as I've said before, it's the concepts behind a designs of a Pokemon, and the execution of that concept is what can make a good Pokemon design, and I think the ones I've listed above are executed well.

Note: Also, I've looked further into Klefki's design, and it's meant to be based on one of the many factors of mischievous fairies, primarily the habit of stealing important items from humans, mostly keys. Okay, I give Klefki props for having a good concept behind its design; it's just that I don't like the execution of it.

^Rahkshi is very right.
There was simple pokemon designs since gen1, but the problem isn't the designs being simple but rather being poorly made.
I remember a pic I looked recently, it said Magnemite original design and how it would look if designed today, the "today" one was a upwards magnet, with Adventure time style face (Mouth in "u" at almost the same height of the eyes) and nothing more than that.

The worst part was it looked completely legit.
