Well Smash Bros. is a big deal for gamers who don't have a rage-boner for Nintendo. Getting confirmed for the next one's roster is quite a resurgence in that character's relevance. It'd be more surprising if a female character was announced and then there WASN'T a flood of porn of her.

Heck, as soon as they announced certain male characters, there was always a surge of more female characters with him like Megaman or Little Mac x Samus, Villager x Wii Fit Trainer, Pit x Samus, Peach x Sonic, etc.
