Oh man, that's intense. They have to bite hard enough to be able to pull the carrot away from the other competitor, but too hard will bite entirely through the end and give away the bulk of the carrot to their opponent. You can just feel the tension and the depth of mind games at play as they daintily try to capture the prize.
