I've always wondered:

How come women in hentai anime are shaved/hairless a lot more often than actual Japanese pornographic actresses?

Is it some weird envelope-pushing thing where you can show (or rather, hint at showing) more of the labia if there are no pubes?

Simple. Because anime is fantasy. In reality, most japanese women are natural/hairy. So as part of the whole "wishfull thinking fantasy" thing, anime women tend to be absolutely(pubic)hairless.
