1560449 - Not sure where you got your info from, but as someone who does go to shrines, to me that sounds like a crock of shit...especially when the main Kami in Shinto is Amaterasu Omikami (who's female). And let's not forget about Uzume no Mikoto, either (another widely revered female Kami).
A little clarification on your supposed 'facts', since I can only picture any kind of shut-down of those kinds of shrines to be attributed to prejudice of those who were suckered into believing Western religious concepts (since they're more prudish about those things), not because of Japanese mentality.
