Still, 3.33 wouldve been better if all the elements from 1.0 and 2.0 hadnt been thrown away, if 3.33 had just been 4.44, if we had some way the empathize with the entire supporting cast, if they had just made a 3.33 absent of Shinji and Rei and shown us the timeskip events.
Cuz God knows, 4.0s not gonna answer shit about the timeskip.

Judging from the setup of the entire story so far, 3.33 was merely the prologue to 4.0.
Traditional dramatic structure:
Setting up the story & main chars: 1.11
Main action chapter, protagonist coming into his own: 2.22
Setting up of conflict between main chars & hurdles for protagonist to overcome: 3.33
(Not) Overcoming of said hurdles and resolution to story: 4.0
Google up the classic dramatic structure: exposition, rising action, climax/crisis, falling action towards the end.
In that sense, 3.33 will probably work much better as a movie of its own when (ironically) seen in its connection with 4.0 which will be the second part of its climax as well as the falling action after all is said and tanged...i mean done.
Timeskip doesnt need to be fully pictured for NTE, because as Anno said: its primarily Shinjis story.
I´m all for some hot OVA timeskip MariAsuMisaRitsu action, though. With adolescent Sakura for good measure.
