I've always found it incredibly hard to read anything written on a chalkboard in chalk, even as someone who normally prefers a black background on text. The blackboard is never quite really black (especially if it's been used and there's chalk residue stuck to it), and the chalk never goes on really white (even white chalk ends up looking darker when actually used on a blackboard), and the result is lower than optimal contrast. A whiteboard, on the other hand, with black on white? Highest possible contrast.

If your experience with smartboards (or any electronic technology, really) is more than 18 months old, it's out of date. The smartboard doesn't replace the physical controls; it's set up as a second or mirrored monitor of the computer at the teacher's desk, which has a standard keyboard and mouse. In fact, you can use the keyboard and mouse, or even a wacom tablet or something like it, to draw on the screen. The touchscreen itself still has different colored "pen" styli that you can use to draw on the screen and an "eraser" pad that you can use to erase, so it's still got the standard physical controls of a standard white/blackboard. It's not like you have to draw on it with your fingers, though you can if you want.

Brad Williams, dwarf comedian, got in a fight with an 8 year old at a McDonalds. The kids dad tried to break it up but took one look at his beard and walked away.
