First of all no, she was never called "onna" by anyone, and even if she was this would mean nothing since people talking to Giselle would be as much in the dark as readers are unless they had actually seen Giselle naked.

Saying "she" when talking about her however is just something that happens in translation. In Japan there is no "he/she" when characters talk about about character. Which makes it easier for an author to hide the gender of their characters.

However, the only thing we have that suggest that Giselle is a boy, is that one of the shinigami said that Giselle "reeked" of male sperm.

For all we know, Giselle could just be a huge slut. For instance Giselle turned a lot of male shinigami into zombies... maybe Giselle just had them cum on "her" and gave them blowjobs?
