That's a common misconception, the ocean pressure itself doesn't actually cause death. But the increasing pressure can cause nitrogen narcosis, squeezing the air pockets in the body causing loss of consciousness and death beyond depths of 300ft. Worse yet, a sudden transition from high to low areas in ocean pressure can cause the air pockets in the body to suddenly expand causing embolisms and strokes that lead to death commonly referred to as "the bends". In other words, even if these two survive the initial decompression as they sink to the bottom, manage to free themselves, and still manage to remain conscious long enough to kick back up to the surface, they won't survive the sudden change in pressure.
They're literally screwed three ways to none.

I blame the haters.
And to sound more optimistic, perhaps the girls will be saved by a mermaid Miyuki or a genie Tsukasa? XD As for the pressure mechanics, since when has anime ever cared about obeying the laws of physics? Physics mean nothing in the face of spiral power and catgirls! (^_^)

Free-divers can reach those kinds of depths and safely return to the surface quickly without suffering nitrogen narcosis or decompression sickness. They only become a problem if you spend more than a few minutes breathing high pressure air. If they can free themselves and get to the surface they'll be fine.
