Staff? Please. That's a mace. Heavy and has metal bits that would crack open a skull or break bones.

It's the staff that brings statues to life actually

I'm a little annoyed that the canon of LoZ is being ignored here with the Dominion Rod. The Rod was like a badge of office for the Messenger to the Sky, which was Link, not Zelda.

It's the trusty Dominion Rod. Ah good memories of the Sheikah Statues.

It's not that I'm expecting canon in a non-canon game, it's that I'm expecting the derivative game to respect the source material. Is that too much to ask?

How does this disrespect the source material?

I understand what he's saying. The Dominion Rod denotes who is the Messenger to the Heavens, and that was Link. But I don't think it disrespects the source material. Zelda uses the Wind Waker too. Impa uses the Biggoron Sword, Darunia uses the Megaton Hammer. Those were all Link's items, why make a fuss about this one?

well, those weren't originally Link's, Link found all those items and guess who was the original owner/user.
the Dominion Rod was in the temple of time and thus, trusted to the royal family.
the Megaton Hammer belongs to the Gorons.
the Baton of Wind was used by the royal family of Hyrule.
the Zora Scale.... well the name says everything.
the only one you can doubt is the Giant's Knife/Biggoron Sword, but fair enough you never saw OoT Impa wielding anything but Biggoron lives near Kakariko anyway, without counting that the Gorons are merchants and sure enough in times of peace they used to have business with the people of Kakariko.
