I'm hype as fuck for this, but I think they kindov shot themselves in the foot with Awakening. Since it was possibly going to be the last game in the franchise they rightfully went balls to the wall creating an epic game with your avatar's adventure, zombie/army fighting together with your future children, and taking on a world ending mountain-sized god dragon... how could they possibly top that? From the teaser it looks like they're going to try and up the stakes with some kind of ethereal dimension gimmick and the introduction of rock golems to fuck your shit up. I'll get this day one no doubt, but perhaps Awakening has just grown on me too much, because I don't foresee this new one being the same game changer and life occupier as the last.

FE 6 and 7 had you fighting giant dragons as the end bosses as well. Sacred Stones had you fighting a dark GOD. Most of those were pretty world ending themselves.
I doubt it's a sequel to Awakening. The Fire Emblem series tends to never stay in one world for too long. One or two games at most.
