Well, think of it in a fairy tale book sense. Magic is usually the downfall of dragons in fairy tales, and a knight using a steel sword is usually the one sent to slay dragons.

Nauran and Anon 2, I think you misinterpreted the whole "Dragons are weak versus Steel" thing. It's not that Steel is super effective against Dragon-types, it's that Dragon-type attacks aren't very effective against Steel-types.

As for an explanation as to WHY that is... The best I can come up with is that Dragon Slayers tend to wear heavy armor? Yeah, I'm not sure either...

Steel type resists all types except for Fighting, Ground, Ghost and Fire.

you can take out a fairy with a dragon type, but it seems a lot of idiots who don't know jack shit about pokemon think otherwise and believe the fairys can steamroll them. Most fairy types kinda suck actually, there are about 4 or five good ones offensively.
