When it comes to character archtypes, Chrom is a lot more of a Gary Stu than Sumia is. Sumia is the standard clumsy-cute girl.
Cordelia is actually closer to the Mary Sue than Sumia, being that Mary Sue is "Miss Perfect".
And being called as such is her berserk button.

Fair enough, I suppose. I was more referring to her supports. Disregarding Robin, she can only S-support with Chrom, Frederik, Gaius, and Henry.
On top of that, if Chrom hasn't support convo'd with any of his marriage candidates by chapter 11, but has support points with all of them, he'll automatically marry Sumia- assuming she hasn't been married- since she's highest on the priority list.
The rest of the army supports just fine, so why did they have to make the Dork Lord and the ditzy airhead so damn picky?

Even though the games story pushes Sumia in Chrom's direction, you don't really NEED to pair them up. It's not that bad a pairing in regards to the units you get from it anyways.

Actually, I think it's Olivia that has the highest priority with support points, solely because you get her in the same chapter that Chrom picks his bride in. Otherwise, she'd have almost no chance at all to be with Chrom.
Even though the games story pushes Sumia in Chrom's direction, you don't really NEED to pair them up. It's not that bad a pairing in regards to the units you get from it anyways.

Sumia is just pushed in the plot with the subtlety of, well, the punch she gave to Chrom. She is there just because. I would not be surprised if they had a contest to decide Chrom's bride.
