Wow, this picture is oozing with story. Everywhere you look, there is another puzzle piece waiting to be spotted. So a german and a russian soldiers are having a break. The location seems to be the remains of Berlin. Because the Brandenburg Gate can be seen on the left. The eyes of the german soldier are empty. It doesn't look like she's got any hope left. Maybe she can still take a few russians with her, but she knows she's definitely going to die in this shithole. Is she thinking about how this is her last cup of whatever, as she is clinging to it? Completely motionless and elsewhere with her thoughts, she's definitely given up on life. The russian soldier is the opposite. Clinging to her weapon/life, the cup and it's warming contents are deemed irrelevant. She is shaking, but it's not the cold that's getting to her. Uneasy, because she's got so much to lose. Literally everything is at stake, of course she's nervous. "I will not die here. I'll kill her before she kills me."
This sure puts things into perspective. The war may be lost/won, but that means nothing to these two. We don't know who is going to make it out alive. Maybe noone of them.
