Japanese honorifics are weird, even for a title like Commander they can and will still add a suffix to it. Taicho-san is saying Mr. Captain. I dunno, it's just funny to me.

Well Anon 1, while the closest English equivalent of "san" is "Mr./Ms./Mrs." it is not a direct equivalent.
