No, they aren't related. This is just Nintendo being retarded. Basically what we have here is:

1. A girl that is "like" a little sister to Link.
2. had her appearance changed from a female Link clone to look like Aryll.
3. But then was named "Linkle".

I.E considering all this, why didn't they simply name her Aryll and really be Link's younger sister?

Because even if they acknowledge her as a character of her own, the concept that led to her creation is still "genderswapped Link", and I'm sure they counted on it to bring attention to her.

Exactly #1851982. So that does begs the question as to how she is an "original character" She is about as "original" as the evil doppelgangers of Nintendo's most famous protagonists. (i.e. Link,Samus,Fox and so on) Also shouldn't the genderswap tag count here?

The concept was almost entirely abandoned. The only thing we have left is that her outfit is partially green and that she uses a dual crossbows. Keeping the name "Linkle" is just dumb since she doesn't even resemble that character anymore. She looks like Aryll. So calling her Linkle really is just pandering to idiots that wanted a "female Link". However since she is almost nothing like Link, using the name is idiotic.
