The expressions, the color palette, and the poses are clear indications that the artist was attempting to make a reference, as his normal art style uses much different color saturation as well as designs in general. Speaking of the designs, it's clear as day that Sweetie Belle is meant to portray Miyuki, Applebloom = Konata, and Diamond Tiara = Kagami.
