It's a reference to Japanese TV shows. When a character is killed off, the actor is given a bouquet of flowers. The artist drew Penny, Amber and Pyrrha getting flowers too. It's also why the official Japanese release opened with a caption of "To Monty Oum, in lieu of a bouquet of flowers."
