considering the hate we already have for him being eternally 10 and not hooking up with anyone ever. I think the backlash from people not getting their favorite ship will be negligible compared to how many people are just relieved his character has progressed in some way. The Japanese are well adjusted to their ships not winning, its in half their animes.
