@ Anon1 - He better freaking not! The writers have really put themselves into a corner this season with this episode. It's even more impressive than in Sinnoh, where Ash was doing pretty damn good for most of the season and showed the most growth as a trainer.
His Greninja just soloed a Champion's ace Pokemon after forcing it to Mega Evolve! He literally has no business not curb-stomping anyone he faces in the tournament itself, unless they pull a 'Tobias' and throw someone with multiple Legendaries at him!
His main rival for the season, Alain, isn't even interested in doing the League challenge, and that kid with the Sceptile isn't on Ash's level (plus, Ash has a Sceptile of his own that took down a Legendary).
Plus, as the final nail in the coffin, if Ash did lose to someone, it would imply that the one who defeated him is good enough to become the new Champion; something that has never happened in any of the previous seasons (Cynthia is still regarded as the Champion of Sinnoh when she shows up in Best Wishes, so Tobias didn't beat her).
