Have you been in any fandom for any anime in the last seven years or so that has more than one female character in it? Yuri fans used to be pretty chill, but the trend towards fanservicey yuri anime this past decade has either brought in a lot of ignorant people who weren't into it before or done something to the minds of those who were. They're frequently as bad as any yaoi fangirl; irrational hatred towards male characters and their fans, sociopolitical rants along the lines of "lesbian love is the only kind of true love", a serious sense of entitlement where they lose their shit if a female character gets a boyfriend, and a mob mentality where they'll gang up against anyone who challenges their bad attitude with downvoting, trolling or even DDOS. They're not content with coexisting, they want to drive everyone who doesn't share their shipping preferences completely out of the fandom.
And if you try to call them on their shit, they call YOU a troll.
