Its all about the timing of your shields, both the one on yourself, and the one on enemies. Play like a hit and run char, when you go into battle you should shield yourself and deal dmg. If you see too much dmg coming your way when the shield goes down, put some distance btw yourself and the target and use your alternate fire. It has nice range if you arc it high.
