Well, since this Robin is presumably the player character one, not the one that turns into an evil dragon and leaves her behind, he should be able to hold her reins...

She's a witch from a society of dark mages where that kind of upbringing is apparently the norm. It's a culture where the first thing they do is cut your umbilical cord with a hex, fer Chrissakes.
The fact that she actually loves her child(ren) already makes her leaps and bounds better than Validar or Henry's parents.

Also, in addition to what Anon 5 said, the worst Tharja does in the new timeline is give a harmless cold, and its shown in probably the most inconsistent support in the game.
Compare that to how she stops Noire from learning the dark arts, purely for her safety, and the Future Past DLC where she goes against her usual nature to make Noire happy. Not perfect, but she still very clearly cares for her children.
