Light Fighters and Interceptors are not meant for long operations. They are defensive tools for destroying incoming medium fighters and heavy bomber that are to nimble for the guns on Cruisers and Capital Ships to hit.
You don't send interceptors on long range patrols that would require energy and fuel to be considered, since they are never to far from their launch points where they can refuel and rearm.

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
