That definitely looks like a Power fist from the Fallout game series, most likely 3 or new vegas. Or is that just a coincidence?

You're right. Probably inspired by it at least. Doesn't otherwise look like it references Fallout at all. It lacks the post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland feel.
